Father's Day

Another glorious day!!  I love the weekends and really love Sundays.  I so wish the weekends would last longer and the work days were only two days long.  Oh well, I will gladly take my weekends and spend lots of time with my family.  Today was a really nice day as we honored Rob and our fathers.  How grateful I am to be married to a great man!  They say a girl will marry someone whom is like her own father - and I believe I did.  My father is a honorable man who truly cared for his children.  He laughed with us, taught us right from work, helped us learn to work and instilled in us the love for our Savior, Jesus Christ.  My husband has those same qualities. As we speak he is playing x-box games with his children and they are laughing very hard.  I love to listen to them play together.  I love to watch him use his priesthood to bless the lives of our children and keep them safe.  Today, I say thank you to the two most precious men in my lives.  I love you!!

I wished we could have a had another Skype session today with Cortnie like we did on Mother's Day.  I know it is not allowed, but my mind has been on her a lot today.  I am sure she would have loved to been here with her father to give him a huge hug and tell him that she loves him.  My heart aches in a small way that she is alone on this day (without her family that is) and I know she is somewhat saddened by that. She is such a family oriented person and I know she would love to be here with us. However, there is no place else we would rather her be.  She has grown so much while on her mission and her testimony is wonderful to hear.  I miss her more than I can ever say - but I know she is happy and doing well.  I know when she is sad or not feeling well - I can feel it myself and then I pray extra hard.  She has had a rough couple of weeks with migraines again and had some testing done.  All of the tests came back saying there was nothing wrong which is a big relief. It does not answer the migraines, but we know there is no major cause to them.  That is a comfort.  I wish I could have been there with her to hold her hand while she had blood work done and went in the dark tube of an MRI.  I know those are some of her biggest fears.  How grateful I am to dear sisters who have become her best friends and helped her through.  I pray she is well and think about her constantly.  Six months has gone by already which is wonderful.  I have already been planning our surprise trip to pick her up next summer.  I can hardly wait!!

I was able to take this last week off and join my family in Utah.  Unfortunately, Rob and Britt did not go as they stayed her to do Cinderella. Boyd went to EFY again so Skyler and I went up to have a break and hang out with the family.  Boyd was jealous that he did not get to do all the fun things we did, but he would never give up EFY. It is so worth the money. When he has tears rolling down his cheeks as we drive away, I know his heart has been touched.  He has made some wonderful new friends and I am sure he wonders if he will ever see them again.  I am so thankful we have the means to send our children there.  The testimony they get of the Savior is the most wonderful thing ever. I love to hear their stories and know they have been changed for the good.

Skyler and I had a fun week. We went to water parks, activity centers, the movies, mini golfing, and so much more. He had ice cream every day and got more spoiled. I loved the cooler weather. I went running in the mornings and it was so wonderful. I ran my 5K without any hitches and loved every minute of it. How I wish our weather was that way - so cool in the morning so I could run.  We are at the hot stage though and it is too hard to run in 100 degree weather.  I hated to come home.  I saw the old side of my mother and it was great. She never complained about being in pain and she was with us all the time. She even went to lunch and shopping with us for four hours.  I have missed that so much and hope she has turned a leaf.

Life is back to normal though now. I do not want to work tomorrow but the choice is not given.  I know that I need to work and will do what I can to make it worth my time there.  I need to enjoy it so that is what I choose to do.  It is hard to run on a different schedule than my family during the summer but that is how it is.  I am just so grateful to have them and to take care of them.  I give thanks everyday for those blessings in my life.

Happy Mother's Day

What an awesome day!  Let me first say that I have been blessed with the best mother in the world.  She gave me life; the chance to be my  own person; she taught me the true gospel and instilled in me her testimony; she gave me the ability to love and to serve.  I love my mother so much and wish I could be there with her today with the rest of my family.

I am also so thankful for my mother- in-law. She instilled in my husband these same qualities and I fell in love with him.  Thank you for letting me marry your son and for teaching him how to love a lady.  I am so blessed to have you in my life.

And even more so, I am thankful for the children that call me mom.  My husband made me their mother and he is my best friend. I could not ask for more beautiful, kind and helpful children. They put up with a lot from me and love me still the same.  I was blessed with a wonderful meal from them, dishes being washed, a lovely walk and a night of fun games.  Not to overlook any of that, but the highlight of my day was to talk to Cortnie.  She is so sweet and I love her tons. I can not believe how well she looks and how beautiful she is. The spirit just glows in her.  It was so wonderful so see her face and to hear her voice.  The hour went by way to fast.  I feel like a wound has been re-opened and I hope it does not take too long to heal again - for me and for her.  She cried so hard when it was time to say good-by and we finally just had to push the button.  How I pray someone was there to take her in their arms and hug her for me.  I so wish I could have done it myself.  I am so proud of her and love her so much....but it does not take away the pain of having her gone.

I am so proud to be a mother...I would not trade it for anything in the world.

Happy Times

Happy...what a wonderful word!  It is springtime here and how beautiful it is. I love waking up to cooler weather and going to bed with cooler nights. The days have gotten hot but morning and evening is beautiful. How I wish that I had mornings off so I could go running.  It is so peaceful and quite and beautiful at that time of day.  However, going to work at that time of morning means that I can come home earlier to be with my family.  I just have to find time though to get my running in.  I want to do another marathon but am not in shape to do one right now.  I have put on a few pounds and that does not make me happy.  I also hurt my back so have to take it easy - but determination is back and I am going to do it.  I have one month before summer vacation so I will feel and look better by than.

We are trying to get our kids out more and spend time with them.  We went a played tennis for almost three hours one night as well as had a BBQ and it was great.  I want to do it again - and really soon.  All too soon it will be too out so we need to do it now. It does not look like we will get any type of summer vacation together so we need to make the most of just a few days here and there. Sandra and LeAnn came down last weekend and we had a blast out on the river on the jet skis that we rented.  I was not able to go all day cause of my back, but it was so great to just be outside. The kids had so much fun and we want to do it again.  It is not cheap but if we don't get a vacation, we need to do something fun.  They have small boats you can rent so maybe we will do that for one day or go camping for a few. It is hard with trying to work around four people's work schedules.  Luckily, all of our bosses understand and are pretty easy going.  Besides, my family will always come before work.

Yesterday we took the kids and went to the temple. We were supposed to go with the ward, but Boyd had a fencing competition in the morning so we went just by ourselves.  It was a little bit tempting to not want to go at 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon.  I had so many other things that I could have done, but I knew if we did not go then, it would be a long time before we did.  And, we had all made arrangements to have the day off of work.  It is such a wonderful thing and awesome feeling to see my entire family dressed in white.  I love watching Rob baptize the kids and see the love he has for it.  it bonds them together. I get to stand there with a smile on my face and hand them towels.  It reminds me so much of heaven and I know I want us all there together forever.  A small part of me wished that Cortnie was there, but the thought came to me that maybe she was at the temple that day too and so we really were all together.

As for Cortnie, she is doing so much better. It email this last week stared out "I am great!!"  Those are words a worried mom loves to hear.  I can hardly wait for next Sunday!  I am hoping that I don't cry the whole time but I am so ready to hear her voice and hopefully see her face. She sends us lots of pictures and videos, but it is not the same as talking face to face.  She absolutely loves her mission. She has learned to love the trail center and sees the blessings every day from it. They are going into their busy time so will get really busy.  Transfers were this past week so I have been worried that she might have started another migraine.  I pray not. I  have seen pictures of her new companion and she looks so happy. It is a sister that she loves to hopefully they get along well.  I wont' find out all the details until tomorrow or Tuesday but I know she is okay.  I just pray that she is watched over everyday.  I love her so much.  I miss her tons and part of me is not ready to do this all over again with Boyd.  I don't think it will be any easier with the second one - but we shall survive.  How I love my children!!  I love being a mom!

Life is happy.  I am happy.  I try hard to make others happy and to look for the best in life. I am not good at that especially at work, and I need to do better.  I need to be nice and not talk bad about them. I just wish that they would work harder and not put so much pressure on me.  However, it will never change until one of them is gone and who knows, we might get someone worse.  I just need to stay happy.  I need to serve and to help others as that is when I am the happiest.  I am so glad to be alive and to have the many blessings that I do.

Weekends are the Best

I absolutely love weekends!  I am so lucky to have a job where I can choose not to work on the weekends and can spend that time with my family.  We are not all together all day long on both Saturday and Sunday, but we are together a lot. Sometimes Britt and Boyd have to work but we survive. We can spend time together watching movies, doing yard work, cleaning the house and of course going to church.  The days seem to fly by though and before you know it, we are back at work again.  I wish the weekends were as long as the work week.

Our lives are busy right now as usual - or at least we seem to stay busy.  With so many of us working and schedules to keep it is sometimes hard to balance.  I so wish that I could find something for Skyler to do though as he just sits home every night after school.  I worry cause he does not go play with friends or even go outside.  He just stays in his room on his computer and that really bothers me.  I try to take it away and to set limits on it, but it never seems to work.  I am thinking I just need to set up some kind of  a schedule with him where I actually am his playmate. We could do scouts, go for walks or just play games.  The problem is when I try to do that, he gets upset and just wants to hurry through whatever we are doing at the time.  I need to give up some of my stuff too so that he will also.

We did go with Boyd a few weeks ago as chaperone's to his culinary competition in Tuscon.  There is nothing like riding a bus for eight hours with a bunch of high school kids - but it was worth it.  Boyd did not hang out with us a lot, but I think he really liked having us there.  He went to state competition with his culinary club.  He was chosen to do the hardest event which was mystery basket.  He was giving a bag with food in it and had to prepare a dish using all of those items. there were other items he could use on a separate table, but the bag items were mandatory. He was given kale, pineapple, beef steak and a granola bar. He choose to smash the granola bar and use it as a coating for his steak. He also made a kale salad with a vinaigrette dressing and grilled pineapple on top.  I thought he did absolutely wonderful.  He did not score very high and was not the winner, but he did an excellent job for his first time around.  I am so glad that we were able to go and watch him perform.  He really is a good cook.

I worry about Brittnie.  She is here at home and has no social life whatsoever.  She goes to work and studies for her classes then watches TV to pass her time.  She did not get her papers filled out for grad school so will not be going there anytime soon.  I just wish there were others she could hang out with .  It bothers her that a log of her friends are getting married and she does not even date anyone.  There is a particular boy her that I think that she likes, but she is very shy and does not talk to him much.  I wish that they would hang out more - even if just as friends. Cortnie is concerned about her too and writes her a special letter every now and then.  In fact, she writes to her more lately than to me and I am the one that writes to her every week - at least twice.  Oh well, I will not hold a grudge. They need that special bond and I know that Brittnie really misses her.

Cortnie has been have some big struggles.  Transfers came and went and she stayed right where she was with the same companion.  However, her companions from the MTC were both made trainers and given someone brand new.  That upset Cortnie and made her wonder what she was doing wrong.  Well, all the stress of that situation and some issues with other struggles made her get a migraine.  This was not ordinary migraine though as it did not go away - for almost 2 1/2 weeks.  I even got a phone call from Sister Weston asking what to do.  I was able to get hold of her doctor her and he was able to actually talk to Cortnie (no fair by the way).  He told her some different things to do but they did not work. The next week when we talked she still had the migraine.  I became desperate.  We called the temple to put her name on the prayer roll, we asked the ward to pray for her, Rob and I fasted for her and we even sent her some oils that were suppose to help.  She said that her migraine was only one day last week so that was a good thing. She said she can live with one migraine a week and will gladly take that over everyday.  I was so worried - and still am - about her.  I cried all the time and did not know what to do.  I finally pleaded with our Heavenly Father to help her and make her whole.  I had heard a talk about it at general conference.  I have never prayed so hard in all my life I don't think.  I wanted her to be happy and to feel better.  She sent me a video for my birthday and she said that she was doing better and that she was happy.  I so miss that little girl though.  This month has seemed to drag by while the others went quicker.  I get to actually talk to her on Mothers Day in a few weeks and I can hardly wait.  I just need to prepare now so I dont' cry the whole time.

I am so proud of all of my children.  I am married to my best friend and want us to be together eternally.  I long for my children to be happy and will worry about them all the time. That is a mothers right.  I guess I kind of understand how our Heavenly Father feels and know that he wants the same for us.  Hopefully, life will continue to move along well and we can all be happy.  I can hardly wait for time off though so I can have more than just a weekend with my family.

One More Day

One more day.....everyday that goes by I am thankful for one more day. I  am grateful that I can get out of bed in the morning, that I can see and walk and talk.  I am grateful that I have a wonderful family and that we are sealed forever.  I am grateful for extended family that I love so much and long for the time we can be with them more.  Everyday I count my blessings and know that they come from above.

We are here right now in Panaca visiting Rob's parents.  Dads health is not very good anymore so they have a very hard time traveling.  We are on Spring break this week so decided to come for a couple of days.  Unfortunately, we have to go home tomorrow so some of us can go back to work on Thursday.  We have not done much while we are here - which is the way it usually is. However, this time I brought stuff to do.  I got completely caught up on my photo albums yesterday and today I started Cortnie's scrapbook. She made it known that she would like me to put her photos in a scrapbook since she will not have time when she comes home.  She will just have to label the pictures this way.  I am not sure that I have tons of tiime to do a scrapbook either, but I will do my best.  I am also not that creative so it is nothing special but it does look nice.  It makes me feel close to her when I can do things for her and look at her pictures.  My goal is to do a little each Sunday so I don't get behind....we shall see.  We were able to "talk" to her today through email and it was so nice.  I love our chats with her.  I always seem to miss telling her good-bye each week each seems though.  Usually I am trying to email her from work so today was nice not to have to worry about that.  I miss her tons. This week I have been very emotional.  I think part of it is cause I miss her, but part of it is realizing my kids are growing up.  I still wish they were small.  It is hard ot see them grow up but yet exciting at the same time.  I will have another missionary in just over a year.  Hopefully the first one will be home before he goes.

These past few weeks have been really nice. I am not sure why, but life seems to have settled down.  I am still trying to figure in a workout schedule though as now I go to work at 7 so can't run in the morning.  The weather is nice again so maybe I will start running outside again. I need to do something.  I am trying hard not to spread myself to thin but this month is pretty busy.  Next week Rob and I will be chaperoning Boyd's state culinary competition.  I am excited to go watch him perform but not looking forward to the bus ride.  I also spent this last weekend helping prepare food for a wedding - it took about 12 hours.  I was so exhausted and ready for a break. Panaca lets you relex that is for sure.

I also surprised Rob a couple of weeks ago with a Vegas getaway for his birthday.  I bought tickets to see Bill Cosby and got a hotel room. We had such an enjoyable time with just the two of us. Cosby is always funny and this was no different.  Saturday we went to the temple. We saw a friend that I have been way concerned about and found out she is having a very rough time.  I needed to see her and she needed to talk.  We were at teh temple that day for a reason and at the right time.  I always love to go to the temple and this was no different. We spent time shopping and relaxing and just enjoying being together. i am trying to figure out something good for our 25th anniversary in August too.  We need to do something.....and I want it to be something different.

Anyway, I am happy.  I am so blessed and I thank my Heavenly Father for that every day.  I pray that he will continue to keep us all safe.  I am so looking forward to the day Cortnie comes home just so we can all be together again.  Live is really good - from day to day.

Wishes and Dreams

As Cortnie would say (quoting her famous Disney quotes), "when you wish upon a star.....".  Sometimes I wish that I could wish upon a star and all my dreams would come true.  Don't get me wrong, I have a wonderful life. I have a great husband whom is my best friend, and four beautiful children. We are all healthy and we have good jobs.  However, sometimes it is hard not to wish for something more....like maybe a day off during the week instead of just weekends, or maybe less computers in my house so there was more family time, or maybe more activities for my children to participate in so I can go and embarrass them more.  I so enjoy being a mother and taking care of my family.  It is not always easy, but it is worth it.  I will gladly do it day after day (sometimes with complaints) and year after year.  My most important wish and dream - to be with my family eternally.

Another month has gone by and I am not sure that I can say it went by quickly.  If I look back at it I guess that is has in most regards.  In the aspect of Cortnie being gone, it has been gone slowly.  I know that in a few months I will look back and say that it all went be too fast.  I really can't believe we are halfway through this month. It seems like it was just Christmas but that is seven weeks ago.  It has been another month full of work and little play but I will have to say that I don't think I am nearly as busy now as I was ten years ago, or even a year ago.  I do have time to myself each night and can actually get into bed at a decent time.  I still seem to not get everything done on the weekends that I want to do so some of it carries over into the week.  However, I have at least one night a week where I am home by myself now so I am able to get lots done then too and not feel guilty.  I do hope to make some changes, with Rob's help, to the electronic use in our home.  My kids are forever on their computers or televisions or game systems. They don't see to know how to play with each other or friends and they have no social life.  That really bothers me - especially since I have daughters who are older now and have only gone on like three dates.  It needs to change...

Can I say anything wonderful has happened this month?  Off the top of my head - not really.  The boys have been playing church basketball each week and really enjoyed that.  I went to the tournament yesterday and it was lots of fun to watch them.  They have both really improved over the past year.  They were making baskets and free throws and playing as a team. Skyler even made a couple of three point shots. I will have to try to go to more games next year - it was lots of fun and exciting to watch them yesterday.  I hate to see it end as it was something they liked to do and looked forward to each week.

The flu bug did hit my home unfortunately. I don't believe it was as bad as some people though so I am grateful for that.  Rob and Boyd were both done one weekend with it and Britt has part of it now.  It is the worse bug that I have ever seen.  It is mostly viral so there is not really anything that doctors can do for it either.  When it finally gets bad, after about three weeks, then antibiotics will work.  We are still so busy at work but I have finally decided I am not staying anymore and I leave when my shift is over.  I need to be home with my family and have time for myself. I started running right after school and that was really nice.  I need to do it everyday like I used too. I feel so much better and have a little bit of weight from the holidays still that needs to come off.

Boyd went to a culinary competition in Scotsdale a week ago.  He wants to be a chef so this is what he needs. He practiced quite a few times at home and lots at school. They were required to make omelets.  He got two perfect tens on his as wells as a nine, eight and seven.  His knife skills were not the best though so his overall grade was a little bit lower.  He had the time of his life though and can't wait for the next one in March.  I am hoping to drive down for part of that one, but dont' know if I will make it.  It will depend on gas prices and money. We are tyring to take it easier with Cortnie being gone and not having quite as much money.

I decided for Valentines this year I wanted to do something different. Rob and i went out the night after Valentines since it was a weekend and they are easier to go out than weekdays.  So, I cooked a candle light dinner for Rob and the kids. The food was only red heart pancakes, red scrambled eggs, plus dipping chocolate for strawberries, bananas, crackers, marshmallows etc.  I turned off all the lights and lit the candles. It was fun when they came out to hear their responses.  Skyler wanted to turn the lights on so he could see what he was eating but we would not let him.  Boyd and Brittnie both thought it was cool.  I thought it was tons of fun.  We had also received a letter from Cortnie that day with videos in it of her so after dinner, with the lights still off, we watched those. She looks so good and had that special glow about her.  I cried when I first saw her as I wanted to take her and hold her.  She talked just like a missionary and told us all about her miracles and the first people she challenged to baptism who said yes.  It was so cool and I can't wait for more.  I love hearing from her and "chatting" with her each week.  Tomorrow is email day so I wont' sleep much tonight.  I do still miss her so much but I am okay.  If I think too much about it, the tears start to come, but they are not sobs anymore.  Just silent tears running down my cheeks.

I am so happy and proud to be the mother and wife of the Beatty bunch!  I look forward to every other Friday more than I can say so that I get date night with my husband.  We don't do much but I love just being with him and no one else.  The other weekends we try to do movie night or something like that with our kids.  I love them all so much.  I miss my extended family and hope to some day live closer to them.  Until then, we plug on.  We take one day at a time and try to be happy and make the most of the day.  I am so grateful for each one and for my Heavenly Father for giving them to me.

Rough Month

I am sooo ready to go back on vacation!!  It is hard to believe that it has only been three weeks since we had one, but my body needs another one.  I have never seen the start of a new year like this one is at the pharmacy. They are usually rough and hard to get through, but this year has been more so than ever.  I worked almost fifty hours two weeks ago and 43 hours last week.  I have been working some twelve hour days.  There is so much sickness going around the entire country right now it is crazy.  People are panicking cause they did not get their flu shots so know they want one. At one point in time we were the only pharmacy to have them in town. That particular day, we did 48 flu shots on top of all the other scripts. We can't keep antibiotics in stock nor cough medications.  And, of course, some of our own have caught the bug so they are calling in sick.  Lucky me...I am always the one that gets to stay and work extra since everyone else is already schedule the late shifts.  I am tired of their whining too about all the hours they are doing and how tired they are.  I even told them as much last week and no one responded - they were quite for a long time.  Needless to say, the start of this year has not been the best.  I am praying that it will slow down soon but I just don't see the end in sight.  The epidemic is going strong and I think it will stay for a while.

We did have such a wonderful vacation though so I hold onto those thoughts.  To top it all off, our final day included a phone call from Cortnie while she was at the airport.  We were up waiting for the call so we would not miss her.  As soon as we answered, all we heard was crying.  I asked her what was wrong and she said she was just so glad to hear our voice. She had been having such a hard time in the MTC with not being able to talk to us.  She has been away from home before, but called home every night.  How it hurt to hear her cry.  I wanted so bad to jump through the phone and hug her or to tell her just to come home, but I had to be strong.  I had to try my hardest to boy her up and make her realize that this was her dream and she needed to live it.  We talked about so many things and I wish I would have written them down.  She told us of being terrified to go to Omaha - that she was going to freeze to death and that she would not know anyone there.  She told us of being nervous to teach and testify what she knew to be true.  She told us of missing our hugs and kisses and being so grateful for the daily letters that I sent her everyday.  We let each of the kids talk to her too, and as each one got on the phone, she would cry again.  It was the most touching when Britt got on the phone - and neither of them could talk through the tears.  They are best friends and it is so hard for them to be apart.  We had an hour with her which seemed to go by in ten minutes.  We told her how proud we were of her and not to be afraid.  All too soon, it was time for her to go.  She began to sob and said she could not hang up the phone.  I listened to her crying and tried so hard to comfort her.  Then Rob said he would do it, and he pushed the disconnect button. She was gone again and then my tears came.  I cried so hard once again.  I did not know how I was going to do this for another seventeen months.  Even now, the tears come easily so I try really hard not to think about it.  I tell her good-night every night and blow her a kiss to her picture on the wall.  I miss her so much.

Cortnie is now in Omaha and last week, seemed to make a breakthrough.  Her emails were so happy and uplifting and full of miracles.  She promised to write us more miracles since an hour does not give her much time to write.  We try to be on the computer at the same time she is writing so that we can email her right back.  It kind of is like talking to her so that helps.  I know it really lifts her up too.  However, when she says good-bye every week, I start to cry again.  I am sure it will be that way until she comes home.  It is just so hard and the ache in my heart always seems to be there.  I know she is where she is suppose to be and I am proud of her for it.  I just pray that she will be okay and her loneliness will ease up too.  I did get a call from Sister Weston this week (missionary president wife) - it scared the dickens out of me.  My first thought was that something was wrong. She assured me that it was not and that Cortnie was okay.  She did say that Cortnie wanted to see a counselor and needed our permission to do so.  She said she has some issues from back in junior high that have hit the surface and wants to talk to someone about them.  I really hope it helps and that she will be okay.  Deep down inside I feel like the  cause of some of those issues and wonder what I could have done different.  I have tried to be a good mother, but many times I put work or other issues in front of my children.  I pray that this was not the case here - that I did everything I could to help out.  How I wish I could talk to her on the phone!!

The rest of the family are doing okay.  We have done pretty good with avoiding the illness, but Boyd did miss a couple of days this last week.  He spoke in church today and gave a wonderful talk.  It is hard to believe in just over a year he will go on a mission too.  We all stay busy with work and school and church.  I graduated from nursery this year and moved up with my babies to sunbeams.  The best part is, Rob is my helper.  I love being in class with him.  I am not sure how he feels about it yet, but I love having him there.  He is so good with kids and it gives me time to spend with him.  I am very hopeful that this week will be better.  Rob will be gone for half of it to an airshow, so it will be just the kids and I.  I am always so ready for him to come home.  I miss him when he is gone.  I want to spend more time with my family and try harder to make time for them. That is my number goal this year....we are so blessed and I pray that we will continue to be.
